Thank you to everyone who came to visit our first pop-up open day today. Hundreds of visitors streamed in from the busy Sunday Market and were able to explore the ground floor and learn about the history and our future plans for reopening the whole building. We are excited to announce that a series of pop-up events will take place on the ground floor of the Amulet this Spring and Summer. These will allow local people to visit the space to learn more about our project and to demonstrate the potential of the building. Activities will start with an Open Day…
Our project had a boost this week with the donation of 400 theatre seats from Cambridge Arts Theatre. They will be used in the short term for temporary pop-up events and when we own the building, they will be installed in the auditorium. The Labour government has announced that they are “minded to cancel” the Levelling Up Fund for Culture, that included £5m for capital cultural projects in Mendip. Our project to purchase and reopen the Amulet had been shortlisted for a share of this fund in June 2024. Instead, they say there will be a new scheme…
News of our potential funding remains on hold. Following July’s election, we are still waiting for news on how the new government will manage community funding. Our bid to purchase and reopen the Amulet had been well received but along with many other community campaigns, we are currently waiting for the bidding process to reopen….
We launched a community consultation today at Collett Park Day. We need to know what you think about our vision for the future use of the Amulet. We will also be at Shepton Mallet Friday Market, in the Market Place for the following dates. Please come along to ask questions and to complete our consultation…
There will be a public meeting for volunteers and anyone interested in the project, on Wednesday 22nd May at the Art Bank, High Street, Shepton Mallet. The bar will be open at 6:30pm and the meeting will start at 7pm. The main purpose will be to discuss progress to date, with opportunities to ask questions.
