Welcome to our campaign to reopen the Amulet Theatre as a multi-purpose community venue in Shepton Mallet.

A number of residents and community groups have come together to return the building to full community use. We have created a community benefit society and are now raising funds to purchase the building. This exciting opportunity has the potential to transform the centre of the Shepton Mallet and to regenerate our high street.

Designed in the bold brutalist style of the 1970s, the Amulet uses a unique moving floor to ingeniously transform from a 270 seat theatre to a 400 capacity dance hall, whilst being perfectly nestled right in the heart of Shepton Mallet town centre. The building was a gift for the town from the Showering Family. It operated as a popular theatre and community centre for many years but has been in private ownership and largely out of public use since 2011.

Shepton Mallet Midsummer Festival

We are delighted to announce a new multi-venue music and arts festival for Shepton Mallet, which will take place over ten days this Midsummer, from 18th to 28th June.

Following last year’s successful season of pop-up events, which took place in a temporary event space built by volunteers in the Amulet, this festival will take place in multiple small and outdoor venues across town.

There will be both free and ticketed events, put on by Let’s Buy The Amulet together with other local venues and promoters, with something for everyone. Highlights include jazz and an outdoor ceilidh, both in the Market Place, punk in the Victoria Inn garden, folk & indie music shows plus spoken word and community art activities. The legendary ‘god of hellfire’ Arthur Brown will perform at the Art Bank and the biggest Prison Yard Party will close the festival on Sunday 28th June.

Tickets may be bought online and also from our stand at the Sunday Market, payable by card or cash without the online booking fee.

Please get in touch if your group or venue wants to put on an event as part of this exciting town-wide programme.

Community Share Offer Success!

Our community share offer has successfully raised £128,000 from 303 investors. This strong grassroots support provides the evidence we need to now seek the remaining funds required from larger funders.

75% of our members live in Shepton Mallet and the surrounding rural area which shows that local people are already committed to supporting this project. A significant number of others who live further away have also invested, showing that this project has the potential to bring visitors into our town centre to boost economic regeneration.
