Funding On Hold

News of our potential funding remains on hold. Following July’s election, we are still waiting for news on how the new government will manage community funding.

Our bid to purchase and reopen the Amulet had been well received but along with many other community campaigns, we are currently waiting for the bidding process to reopen. We are hopeful that the money previously allocated by the Conservative government will be awarded and that future plans will be announced but we have no firm timescale for when this will happen.

The only news that we have is that the government department responsible for community funding has been renamed and new ministers have been appointed in different roles. The following statement has been released to community groups:

This government was elected on a manifesto that stressed its commitment to the communities’ sector and community ownership through empowering communities to own and run those local assets which mean the most to them.

Communities will rightly be seeking clarity on previous funding commitments. The Chancellor’s July ‘Public Spending: Inheritance’ speech set out the path to confirming plans for this year and next at the forthcoming Budget on 30 October 2024. Future plans for the next Spending Review period will conclude in spring 2025.

Statement from Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government

We will announce here when we know more. In the meantime, we are continuing to learn as much as possible about the current state of the building and to refine our future plans.
