During the summer of 2025 our volunteers had the opportunity to temporarily reopen the Amulet, to demonstrate the space and the strong demand to use it from our local community.
Volunteer-Built Event Space
Many people came forward from our local community, some bringing skills and tools, whilst others just brought enthusiasm and a willingness to make a difference. Together we completed the following tasks for a minimal cost of £7,000.
- cleared out rubbish, cleaned, washed & scrubbed
- installed partitions to create distinct functional spaces
- fitted event lighting
- painted bar tables and built a DJ booth
- widened doorways to improve access
- created a 65 seat mini-auditorium, complete with stage, dressing area and sound room
Theatres Trust provided additional funding for compliance work, to make sure everything was safe for public use.

Pop-up Events
Once our temporary event space was built our volunteers hosted a programme of events, with permission to run from June to September 2025. These showcased the wide range of activity that the Amulet will put on and demonstrated the strong demand from our community.
We hosted both ‘commercial entertainment’ and ‘community benefit’ events. The commercial events attracted an audience from neighbouring towns and generated income from tickets and bar sales, providing sustainability for the whole project. Community benefit events responded to the needs of our community and were only expected to break even.
