Our Vision for Future Use

This is our vision for the future use of the Amulet, once we have raised funds to purchase the building for the community.

Using the Building As Soon As Possible

Once the building has been purchased, we will open it for limited activities and events, to make use of some of the spaces while we raise the money to finish repairs of other areas. Our temporary pop-up use of the ground floor has proved that the building can be made usable with relatively little work, although it will require significant refurbishment in the longer term.

The popular Movement Gym will move to another building in Shepton Mallet and the auditorium will be brought back into meanwhile use with simple stackable chairs to start with. The historic moving seating platform will be restored and replacement theatre seats fitted in the longer term.

Community Hub

The Amulet will be a welcoming, inclusive, and lively venue at the heart of Shepton Mallet where all sections of our community will come together.

A series of community rooms will be created on the ground floor, by building stud walls within the existing open plan space. These areas will allow many community activities to take place throughout the week.

The centre will be used by many of Shepton Mallet’s community groups, who currently make do in smaller spaces. Our annual events and groups such as the Snowdrop Festival and Make The Sunshine will be able to use the small community rooms on the ground floor and the large flexible first floor auditorium.

Quality Performance

A bold programme of high quality work will be presented, for the benefit of our local community and also to attract footfall from the surrounding area to regenerate our town centre.

The 270 seat auditorium on the first floor will host theatre, cinema and live music. Once refurbished, the unique lifting seating platform will return this large space to full flexible use.

The Amulet will host a number of multi-arts festivals a year, showcasing the work of comedians, poets, writers, theatre companies, musicians and visual artists. The festivals will aim to provide something for everyone – from the very youngest to the very oldest in the community.

Cafe / Bar

A small cafe/bar will be open for performances and to allow participants of community activities to come together between sessions. The offering will be carefully managed, so as not to compete with the town’s existing businesses.
